Roshanak Wardak
Bio:
Roshanak Wardak is an MP in the Afghan parliament. Wardak is one of the few MPs who represent nearly 1 million people in their province. She is also a gynecologist and spent many years working with Afghan women in refugee camps in Pakistan. In defiance of Taliban orders, Wardak spent five years treating Afghans in some of the poorest provinces and refused to wear the all-covering Burqua. Many militants consider her a collaborator with the corrupt Karzai government, but her community protects her. Wardak is devoted to serving the Afghan people, a fierce proponent of women’s education and much-needed basic development in Afghanistan.
