Bio: Laura Nichols is a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress (CAP) and partner in First Tuesday Media (FTM).

FTM was founded in 2006 and is a one-of-a-kind media company comprised of partners in Los Angeles and Washington, DC with experience in film, television and politics. FTM’s aim is to apply those experiences to the production of unique progressive political and advocacy media. Clients include CAP, Majority Action, September Fund, DCCC, Defenders of Wildlife and American Family Voices Voters Alliance.

She has been senior vice president for communications and strategy at CAP since its founding in 2003. In her current role as senior fellow at CAP, she advises and writes on media, progressive branding and expanded campaigns for the Center, as well work in CAP’s new Los Angeles office.

She spent much of her career on Capitol Hill serving as advisor, strategist and spokesperson for House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt. She was press secretary to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and former Representative Vic Fazio (D-CA). She began her career in politics as the Iowa press secretary in 1988 for Gephardt's presidential campaign.

Nichols also served as Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications at Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) where she oversaw media relations, publications, speechwriting, government relations, online and education public relations, viewer services and special events. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri.
