Bio: Congresswoman Barbara Lee is the co-chair of Congressional Progressive Caucus, First Vice-Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, and Senior Democratic Whip. She has been a leader in promoting peace, security, and human rights. Well known for her work to stop the spread of HIV and AIDS, Lee serves on congressional subcommittees that oversee government programs on labor, health, human services, education, foreign operations, and legislative branch operations. Lee is also co-chair of the Black Caucus Outreach Task Force. Lee was born in El Paso, Texas, and received her Masters in Social Work from the University of California in Berkeley. She worked as an intern in the office of former California congressman Ron Dellums. She rose to chief of staff and served in the California State Assembly before being elected to Congress in 1998.
