Bio:
Alicia Russell is elected chair of Arizona ACORN, and chair of AZ ACORN's political action committee. An Arizona native, Russell was raised in Phoenix, the daughter of farm workers who came to the U.S. in the early 60's. She became involved in community activism when her brother, Erasmo Villavicencio, died while he was chair of AZ ACORN. Alicia was co-chair of the Arizona Campaign to Raise the Minimum Wage. The campaign mobilized thousands of new voters, especially Latinos, and successfully raised the minimum wage in her state to $6.75 an hour, plus indexing. Alicia is also leading ACORN's fight against predatory lending and stopping foreclosures.
