Bio:
Wearing a writer/activist cap, in contrast to my BulkSMS.com profile for the conference), I have been exploring the role of mobile phones and their impact on society, the environment and the political. An outcome of this research is the play TXT ME: A Cellphone Affair.
I lecture part-time at Stellenbosch University on twentieth-century history, including the history of communications technology. My other area of research is on history and gender in surfing culture, and am currently working on aspects of 1960s and 1970s South African surfing.
