MCA-I ProTrack 2008
Session: HD Post Production Technology and Workflow
Description
Explore every aspect of post production: formats, storage, input and output options, tape-based and file-based workflows, archiving and distribution.
This session will start with a quick overview of the technologies used for HD acquisition and the implications for post production - Long GOP vs All-I-Frame - then move on to the specific advantages and disadvantages of available formats. The session will continue with an overview of storage options - from FireWire to SAN and types of RAID.
We move on to hardware available for HD ingest ad when it's useful or necessary. Since you can't edit without monitoring we'll consider HD monitoring options across different levels of quality and budget for picture and signal integrity.
The next section of the session will consider HD workflows: when to stay in the native codec and when to convert to something else, before considering specific workflow recommendations. This section wouldn't be complete without considering the perils of 24P workflow in the HD world. We'll make sure you won't be making any of the common (and disastrous) choices.
We'll wrap up the post production by considering archive and backup options before considering Blu-ray and digital distribution to wrap up the session.
