Personal Democracy Forum 2008

- we have the same genes as 60,000 years ago
- for 50k of those years, we were tribal
- why wasn't NYC built ages ago? we had the kit... answer: we built up a reservoir of learning
- learning first overflowed into civilization, then culture, cities, law, evolution
- cultures that share geographies can propagate
- civilization stabilized... stayed until Gutenberg
- Economist: "humanity is halfway there" (50% having mobiles) - this took one decade
- by 2010, 70% will have mobile
- mobile phones will help eradicate poverty
- sociability is the best way to get ahead
- wiki, invented 1995, wikipedia 2001... that 6-yr gap is the learning gap

- now the equivalent of 50,000 years of cultural transformation will happen in the next 20

Hypermimesis (copying tasks)...
- we are now very quickly copying successful behaviour
- we don't know much about this new form: it's fluid, flexible, pervasive, inexorable
- conservative forces are desperately trying to keep the lid on: every attempt to control copying has failed
- the potency of this new cultural orb is insane
- everyone can talk to everyone else and find everyone else
- paradoxically, Wikipedia is not transparent
the battle of wikipedia: big fight: "we are holding the line against chaos"

Sharing is a threat... photography is instantly and pervasively available
- the mob, mobilized, will do as they please.
