bad news about 2 problems that we can't opt out of: environment and economy. solution - many can be doing other things, make more money. but trying to figure out how to fix country.
1. environment - hansen - said really at the last moment. before thought just bad for the polar bears. that was before katrina, before cali wildfires (most who died were latino farmworkers - didn't have the technology to find out about it), before iowa underwater, tornado through downtown atlanta. scariest channel on tv is weather channel.
2. economy in toilet. stagflation - hadn't dealt with since 70's. worst outcome. pushes all prices up and jobs going down. jimmy carter was last to have to deal with this. challenge: if stimulate economy by drilling oil, we bake the planet.
need to build a green economy. need to weatherize buildings - thousands of contracts. solar panels. need millions - thousands of contracts. wind turbines - put detroit back to work. economic future out there that is green and inclusive.
what's standing in the way is that the people who can create that future don't know each other, have no way to communicate with each other. all the parts are there to save the world, but people are not in communication - no platform to connect people.
next step is how do we aggregate the wisdom we have to create social networks so people can find an connect with each other. now incarcerators, war makers, etc. get all the money. everyone else holding everything together from the bottom get nothing. combine 2 revolutions - green technology and information technology, can get us country we want. across party lines.
