Excellent - Larry getting on stage
- 1785: people recognized that corruption had taken root and independence was threatened
- Independent representatives (non-dependent)
- bribery wasn't a crime until 1853
- in some districts up to 25% of voters sold their vote
- lobbyists have increased because convincing D.C is easier than getting market share against competition
- while private entities fund public elections, we'll have a problem
- legislators regulate industries to extort campaign funding from those companies (awesome insight!)
- shows how 'balanced diet' has been twisted into a mess by lobbyists
- junk science has ruined the global warming sit'n
the problem is not big gov't or wrong answers. the core problem is that private funding destroys trust
- e.g. genentech funded the AHA with $11m and then a drug was pronounced safe
