MobileActive08

Session: Mobile Tech in Citizen Participation
Description
We will explore how mobile technology can support participatory processes in Southern countries such as participatory budgeting, public consultations, and transparenc. We'll investigate questions like: How can mobiles create a new paradigm of social activism related to participation in public decision-making processes? What are the major opportunities, challenges, and barriers to using mobile technologies to improve participation in communities and municipalities?

The LogoLink Network recently concludes an initiative on ICT applications for participatory process in local governments. We ultimately would like to see a global civil society initiative focused on promoting innovative mobile applications for citizen participation.
