MobileActive08
Note by Ms Ingrid BruynseIngrid_Bruynse:
This is a review of the first session from me - a social entrereneur attending for the first time.
Firstly, the number of people in this field is so much more than I expected - we are working with mobiles for social change in all areas!
Then, the diversity hit me - we are focusing on all aspects of this field - from data and applications to content makers and government too.
The Mobile Cafe session provided me with the opportunity to chat to people doing amazing and different things.
My notes on what was common: cost and access issues, but the note that people who have a need, and a communication method, will find a way through, and do incredible, local and contextualised things.
Then, I think people who put the technology first, can get the whole thing wrong: start with the need, the context and the reality, then put the elements together to make a solution, and you have a functional project. If you start with how to get more phones out there - you are just missing the real issue and opportunity!
The local stories are the ones that have the most impact on me - people solving their problems, using mobile in a way that works for themselves..
Looking forward to more conversations with more people!!
