Lot of Schwag, too much. And yeah, it's really for women. :)
A review of the conference overall
I attended BlogHer and while I personally didn't get a lot out of it, I did see the attendees getting a lot out of it. So please understand that the ratings are from my male perspective. I'm sure women see this conference far differently than I. Lots of good positive and eager networking. Here's what was unique about this tech/social media conference that's unlike any I had ever attended before. TONS of Schwag: But that doesn't necessarily mean GOOD schwag. It was a little overkill so all the schwag had less value. You were kind of inundated. It was actually so much that I took nothing. Men were in the minority: Most conferences it's quite the opposite. Many times I had women say to me, you're brave to be here. Men made up less than 5% of the attendees. Tons of food, but mostly junk food: I had attended the SWAT Summit the day before at the same location and the food was fantastic. The food at BlogHer were boxed lunches that were only OK, but for the rest of the time there were cookies, candy, popcorn, and even sweet potato fries. There was a lactating lounge: Definitely the first time I ever saw that at a conference. I got an interview on camera with Grover from Sesame Street. Want to see it? Check it out here: http://www.sparkminute.com/?p=384 For the "how to" blogging sessions, they were not that technical, more for beginners, but they had a lot of more conversational topics that were more targeted to the audience that you'd never find at any other conference. The crowd was huge, and there's definitely more room in this space for a competitor to BlogHer. |
