The sustainable wastewater sludge management constitutes a serious challenge to take up because of the high costs of their treatment and risks which they cause for environment and human health.
Future sludge treatment approaches must be focused on the enhancement of the effectiveness of the processes and their environmental durability. The latter, allied to technical and economic potentials, society approval and implementation of the treatment processes, characterize some significant factors for the assessment approach. Selected approach must also integrate local and regional setting, as well as current and future environmental limiting conditions.
International conference SSM-08, organized within the framework of MOROCOMP project, will approach the most appropriate alternatives for sludge treatment and valorization. Special interest will be given to further coming technological developments of treatment practices and purpose issues. In particular, treatments which try to remove simultaneously environment and human health hazard, as well as recovery or benefit reuse of valuable sludge compounds
