METM 08: Communication Support Across the Disciplines

We welcome proposals on topics relevant to

* the nature of written or spoken texts in professional disciplines that communicate knowledge internationally through English
* the processes through which texts are written, prepared for delivery, or prepared for publication in English
* any of our association's objectives

A look at our preliminary program and our past programs (METM 05, METM 06, METM 07) will give newcomers to our association an indication of the scope of MET's interests.

In the research presentation category, examples of fields of interest are genre and discourse analysis; contrastive and critical discourse and genre analyses; professional level ESP writing and speaking; ethnography applied to text and communication, including some aspects of 'journalology' such as how to elicit revision from authors or how to deal with various forms of plagiarism. Many of these areas are also relevant in the promising practices category. In the new category of brief background knowledge updates (see examples below), any area where concrete categories of information need updating would be a candidate.
