Welcome to the international conference and workshops entitled GEOBIA, 2008 - Pixels, Objects, Intelligence: Geographic Object Based Image Analysis for the 21St Century. GEOBIA 2008 will be held at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada August, 6-7, 2008, with an icebreaker on the evening of August 5, and workshops scheduled for Aug 5 & 8. The conference program will be based on concurrent oral & poster sessions covering a range of topics from theory and methods to applications. A special session is also being developed on 'How GEOBIA Can Support Real-World Challenges Faced by Government & Industry'. Invited keynote speakers will further highlight key issues and challenges. GEOBIA, 2008 is co-organized in partnership with the Canadian Space Agency, the ASPRS and the ISPRS. Conference proceedings will be linked with ISPRS Working Group IV/4 to provide literary/scientific standards and online access. A GEOBIA special issue of Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing (PE&RS) will be published in 2009.
