NPC 2008 hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, will be held from October 18 to September 20, 2008 in Shanghai, which is located along the coast of the East China Sea and the southern banks of the mouth of the Yangtze River, is a city under the direct jurisdiction of the Central Government. Covering an area of 5,800 square kilometers (2,239 square miles), Shanghai has a population of 18.7 million, including 2 million floating population. It is the largest metropolis in China and one of the most historically significant cities.
