Founded in January 1999, the Game Theory society aims to promote the investigation, teaching, and application of game theory.

Game theory studies strategic interaction in competitive and cooperative environments. Half a century old, it has already revolutionized economics, and is spreading rapidly to a wide variety of fields.

Every fours years the Society hosts its World Congress. The first was held in Bilbao, Spain in 2000. The second was held in Marseille, France in 2004. The third is to be held on the Evanston Campus of Northwestern University, in the United States.
