The demand for fine jewellery is deeply-rooted in the traditions of the Middle East. In recent years this demand has translated into a multi-billion US$ market that continues to grow as a result of high disposable incomes and soaring population growth rates. Lebanon, meanwhile, constitutes the heart of this market, occupying the pivotal position as the West's favoured entry point into the region and at the same time boasting the world's most skilled and creative jewellers. Jewellery currently leads Lebanon's list of re-exports, topping 1 billion US$ annually.
