Entertaining overview of web 2.0 concepts
A review of the session "Web 2.0 and Its Impact on Technical Communication"
Scott did a pretty good job of with what is an increasingly broad topic. He showed a lot of great examples, and I enjoyed the talk. The Viddler.com stuff he showed on video documentation was especially interesting. Nothing wrong with the other examples Scott chose, but I think in some case there are better exmplars. For example, Yahoo Pipes is interesting, but http://www.Popfly.com is much more interesting. Full disclosure: I work for Microsoft, and have blogged on Popfly here: http://blogs.msdn.com/johnmullinax/archive/2007/06/04/want-more-info-on-popfly.aspx. But it's not just me that says Popfly blows Yahoo Pipes away -- it's also TechCrunch and Chris Pirillo (http://chris.pirillo.com/2007/05/18/popfly-microsoft-gets-an-a/). If there were three key takeaways, I would say there are these: 1. Web 2.0 is about empowering users in ways that create value for them. 2. Web 2.0 is about giving up control, with all the risks and benefits that implies. 3. You are (probably!) not psychic :-) Nice job Scott! |
