Content Convergence & Integration 2008
Session: How are you being served? Designing Service Experiences
Description
Yesterday’s generation of interaction designers are primarily concerned with interfaces. But today we need to be thinking about networks and how people connecting can provide services. Service design can be both tangible and intangible, it can include communication, content delivery and environments. Whichever form it takes it must be consistent, easy to use and be strategically applied.
Many of our service experiences are multifaceted and co-produced and senior managers involved in the service and content delivery sectors are still unaware of the benefits that design can bring to their offerings and, as a result, many organizations are operating at a sub-optimum level. How do we change this? By designing their services into integrated experiences.
Haig Armen talks about one of the most contemporary design disciplines: Service Design. Outlining the benefits and challenges, Haig will illustrate some real world examples and describe the methodology, capturing workstreams, using prototyping, and implementing solutions.

When Websites Meet Applications
For me, this session was all about the design challenges presented by a website that has the dual objectives of being both a vehicle for marketing and a vehicle for delivering a service. The service delivery is provided by a web application. As with any application, there is a need to understand existing business processes, to define requirements, to create a prototype, and get client feedback. Iterative processes, agile development techniques, and the web application framework Ruby On Rails were used. The session showed that the speaker has done excellent design work, but I felt that the material needed stronger organization and a more polished presentation. There were many good slides that I barely saw. |
