SANTA MONICA, Calif. (June 13, 2007) - Userplane, the premier communication platform for online communities and a wholly owned subsidiary of AOL, today announced the deployment of its Webchat application on Confabb, the Web’s largest resource for conferences and trade shows.
Webchat enables real-time text messaging and streaming audio/video communication for any website. Confabb is using it to allow attendees, speakers and administrators of any conference or trade show communicate with each other online, and to participate in ongoing discussions about conference details and session topics before and during events.
Maintaining a growing database of more than 29,000 conferences worldwide, Confabb has built an online community that provides tools to help people maximize the time they spend planning for and attending conferences and trade shows.
“As we further expand and enhance our application suite, we’ve hoped companies would embrace our tools for this exact purpose,” said Michael Jones, CEO of Userplane and vice president of AOL. “The Webchat platform is a perfect fit for extending the conference experience outside the physical event. Allowing a shared social space for professionals to discover and connect with their industry is a natural next step for business events, and brings substantial added value to conference attendees.”
“Userplane makes it easy to enhance our online community with the most robust and feature-rich communication tools available,” said Jon Mandell, COO, Confabb. “Just like the conferences themselves, Confabb is more than just a place to get information. It’s a thriving community of people connecting and sharing ideas, and Webchat helps us make that personal connection possible.”
Confabb is providing Userplane’s chat capabilities to its hosted clients, and soon will open it up to all members of the online conference community. So far, Confabb has made Webchat application available to administrators of the Personal Democracy Forum 2007.
Next, Confabb will offer both text and a/v chat for Take Back America 2007, billed as “the premier progressive event of the year.” Set for mid-June in Washington, D.C., Take Back America 2007 expected to draw thousands of progressive activists and leaders – including many 2008 presidential candidates. In addition to chat capabilities, Confabb will live stream audio and video content promoting the event’s sessions and speakers.
Leveraging Macromedia’s robust Flash Communication Server technology, Userplane applications enable community, dating, corporate and collaborative websites to rapidly deploy a scalable, centrally-hosted a/v chat room for their users. Userplane is used on more than 150,000 websites.
